For Immediate Release:
After a comprehensive national recruiting effort led by The Moran Company, the Board of Directors of Hear Indiana is pleased to announce Lisa Thornton as its new CEO, effective August 2, 2021.
“Lisa’s experience with governance, leadership, and program development, in business and with not-for-profit organizations, offers Lisa a great opportunity to expand Hear Indiana’s reach while continuing our mission to create equal opportunities for children with hearing loss through Listening and Spoken Language,” says Damon Strickland, Chair of the Hear Indiana Board. Most recently serving as the Development Director at Sheltering Wings, she is an accomplished Executive Development and Business Strategy leader with a history of exceptional success with both corporate and not-for-profit organizations.
Lisa has a proven record securing transformational revenue in public and private sectors by establishing significant relationships with Fortune 500 companies, foundations, corporations and exclusive individual donors. She brings extensive grant writing, business, strategic planning, development and communications experience. Her enterprising approach to leading businesses, corporations and non-profit development teams aims to increase and retain a strong donor base, deepen community and corporate relationships, and increase transformational funding.
From a family of business owners, doctors and educators, Thornton moved to Fishers, Indiana over 21 years ago with her daughter Ashley. For 20+ years, she has advocated for those most vulnerable including children with intellectual and mental health challenges. Lisa serves on the National Board of Director’s Development Committee for the NEA BPD, and teaches national NEA BPD classes that provide evidence-based education, skills, training and support for family members supporting sufferers of BPD and Emotional Dysregulation. She currently has two family members using speech, language and hearing services. “As someone who has seen these challenges in my own family, I’m thrilled to join Hear Indiana and work to advance the cause for children with hearing loss.”
The Board of Directors conducted a thorough search process this past spring and summer led by The Moran Company. Based in Kansas City, The Moran Company specializes in recruiting top leadership positions for nonprofit organizations across the nation.
The board is deeply grateful for the support of Naomi Horton as the Special Consultant to the CEO throughout the first few weeks of Lisa’s leadership. Naomi’s many years of dedication and service to Hear Indiana have been monumental in shaping the outcomes of Hoosier deaf and hard of hearing children and their families. The staff will forever be thankful for her passion and drive for effecting change. Because of Naomi’s successful efforts, children in Indiana have a chance to hear and be heard.
