Budget Friendly Acoustics

Valerie Chernavage, M.Ed


Valerie is the Mainstream Outreach Coordinator at St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf in Indianapolis. She grew up in Michigan just outside of Detroit and attended Eastern Michigan University’s undergraduate program for Hearing Impairments with an Auditory-Oral emphasis. She received her Master’s degree in Special Education with a specialization in Auditory-Verbal practices for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing through the partnership between the John Tracy Clinic and the University of San Diego. After residing in Virginia for two years, she is excited to be back in the Midwest as part of the wonderful St. Joseph team.

Session Description:

This breakout session will address the factors that contribute to poor classroom acoustics, and the effect less desirable acoustic environments can have on children with hearing loss.  We will discuss how to evaluate classroom acoustics and how to make "budget friendly" modifications to improve the acoustic environment.
