Raising Deaf Children: A Parent's Perspective

Jennifer Rosner, Ph.D.

Jennifer Rosner is a mother of two deaf children (ages 7 and 10) and is author of If A Tree Falls: A Family’s Quest to Hear and Be Heard.  She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Stanford University.  Her writings on deafness have appeared in Good Housekeeping, Wondertime Magazine, The Faster Times, and Hastings Center Report.

Abstract:

Jennifer Rosner will read from her new book, If A Tree Falls: A Family’s Quest to Hear and Be Heard, and will discuss her experiences raising her two deaf children. Discussion topics may include parent reactions and emotions; advocacy in school and elsewhere; navigating the politics of deafness; building self-esteem in deaf children; researching the causes of deafness; and others.
