Supporting Family Literacy

Keynote Speaker:

Susan Lenihan, Ph.D.

Dr. Lenihan is a Professor and Director of Deaf Education at Fontbonne University. Her research includes parent-child interaction, cochlear implants, and literacy development for children with hearing loss. She has worked collaboratively with colleagues in Germany and Costa Rica on early intervention programs.





Description of Session:

This session will address effective strategies for joint storybook reading including the principles of dialogic reading, models of family literacy programs and ways of assessing family literacy. Videos of joint book reading will be presented for analysis and resources for parents and professionals will be provided.
