Abstract:

IEPs & All That Jazz is a session which will help attendees better understand the team approach to writing an IEP.  The session will be presented by a mock “team” comprised of: 1) a teacher for the deaf and hard of hearing, 2) a general education teacher who also has a son with a severe hearing loss, 3) a parent advocate, and 4) a parent of a child (who is deaf and attends a mainstream school). Attendees will learn valuable information on goal writing, data collection, progress monitoring, and the importance of team work.  We will discuss tools which are available to assist in writing measurable and meaningful goals which focus on the areas of need for each student.  Once the goals are written the “team” will decide how to collect appropriate data and progress monitor the goals. During the session there will be opportunity for attendees to participate in the IEP process through an interactive format.
